“We believe all lives have equal value, and that includes the many more people who will live in future generations than live today”.
To put this announcement into perspective, the staggering amount of resources Zuckerberg and Chan plan to donate exceeds that of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has an endowment of just over $41 billion (including wealth donated by Warren Buffett).
In this undated photo provided by Mark Zuckerberg, Max Chan Zuckerberg is held by her parents, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan Zuckerberg. “You’ve given us hope that together we can build this world for Max and all children”.
Following the birth of their daughter Max, the couple decided it was time to do their part in making humanity a better place. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us.
Their shares in the company are valued at $45 billion and they plan to give away no more than $1 billion a year over the course of the next three years.
Zuckerberg outlined his philanthropic mission, focused on “advancing human potential and promoting equality”, in a letter to his newborn daughter. The letter covers Zuckerberg’s passions for giving the world access to the Internet and his belief that this generation could be the one to end world hunger, along with many other initiatives.
As of now, the couple has not released any more details to their mission.
“It’s a world where our generation can advance human potential and promote equality, by curing disease, personalising learning, harnessing clean energy, connecting people, building strong communities, reducing poverty, providing equal rights and spreading understanding across nations”.
