FIFA officials arrested in new round of pre-dawn raids

Five current and former members of Fifa’s ruling executive committee are among 16 additional men indicted on corruption charges as part of U.S. prosecutors’ widening investigation into soccer corruption.

– Term limits: Maximum term limits of three terms of four years for the FIFA President as well as all members of the FIFA Council, the Audit and Compliance Committee and the judicial bodies.

A statement added: “The high-ranking FIFA officials are alleged to have taken the money in return for selling marketing rights in connection with football tournaments in Latin America, as well as World Cup qualifying matches”.

The members of the Council will be elected by the member associations of the respective region under FIFA’s electoral regulations, with a FIFA Review Committee to conduct comprehensive and enhanced integrity checks.

“CONCACAF continues to cooperate with all government authorities in their investigations to the fullest extent”. The U.S. Department of Justice indictment published in May alleges it was a bribe from 2010 World Cup host South Africa.

Both are members of FIFA’s governing executive committee and vice presidents in the organization.

His predecessor, Eugenio Figueredo, was also among soccer officials arrested in May in Zurich on USA warrants.

The arrests came on the opening day of Fifa’s Exco meeting, at which the potential expansion of the World Cup for the first time since 1998 will be discussed. “Everybody was surprised, the feeling was like it’s happening again, that it’s something we think is personal”.

The hotel was also the scene in May of the arrests of seven top football executives for corruption.

However, veteran leader Hayatou – who has been head of the Confederation of African Football since 1988 – is recovering from kidney transplant surgery and had made an early recovery.

But executive committee member Wolfgan Niersbach said the body had failed to agree on the matter, putting the decision off until a later date.

Last month the presidents of the Chilean and Colombian federations – Sergio Jadue and Luis Bedoya – both took sudden leave of absence to fly to the United States where it was believed they had agreed to co-operate with investigators.
