Cowboys won’t put Tony Romo on IR because of playoff hopes
The quarterback then came to Dallas, made it onto the 53-man roster, and then was dropped from it again when Romo came back. Green was a third-round pick this year and has been out since having offseason hip surgery.

Kellen Moore has been on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, but the team has now elevated him to the active roster.
The Cowboys placed rookie defensive end Ryan Russell on reserve/injured with an abdominal injury. The second worst thing it can do is make the playoffs with Romo and have him as rusty as he was in the Panthers game with, therefore, the same result. The team made a decision to not put Romo on season-ending injured reserve because of what they called “still possible playoff odds”. After all, Romo is the Cowboys’ QB for the next four or five years. And I know that Matt Cassel is much better at nearly winning games than winning games. In fact, Romo’s abilities in the games he’s played look far more promising than some of his performances last season.
After Thursday’s loss to the Panthers, the Cowboys sit at 3-8 and won’t have Tony Romo for the remainder of the season.
Cassel’s performance wasn’t the only factor in that 0-4 stretch; the Cowboys lost all four by a combined 18 points.
Jones talked about the 3-8 Cowboys’ struggles this season and gave a vague outline of their future plans at quarterback. The Cleveland Browns have tried and given the young quarterback a number of chances, but he may have finally run out while Tony Romo has run out of health.
Garrett doesn’t see it that way.
Maybe the reason the Cowboys aren’t putting Tony Romo on IR is that they’re trying to save a little cash. “In the second game against Seattle, we played them how we wanted to play”.
“I had a nightmare last night”, Jones said, “and I was hoping when I woke up this morning it was just that”. “I think he’s demonstrated a comfort level at each of them”. When I let our team down, our coaches, our fan base – everybody – I have to live with that. They’ve got probably one of the best offensive lines in the game, a very capable running game, a passing attack with Dez [Bryant] coming back. “I feel like, in some ways, I couldn’t quite get myself into the same mental framework, the way I’m used to playing”.
And I know it, I get it. C’mon, the Cowboys can’t win with Cassell at the helm. It was frustrating. I cost my team.
