Refugee crisis a ‘defining moment for Canada’: GG
Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said this was the sentiment he gathered after visiting refugee camps in Jordan, a move seen as an effort to boost his foreign policy credential.

She declined to comment specifically on Carson’s trip, but said, “To visit Jordan and to visit the camps and to think that that is the full picture is inaccurate”.
CBN News Reporter Abigail Robertson recently visited refugee camps in both Lebanon and France where people had varying answers on whether or not they want to return to their war torn homes. An estimated 4 million people have been declared refugees from the Syrian war. “Having said that, my suspicion is that these people are incredibly resilient and courageous folk who have managed to endure these circumstances and we will be impressed by their resilience”. “Hundreds” of physicians have volunteered their services, says Dr. Phillip Berger, co-chairman of Canadian Doctors for Refugee Care. “The Jordanian Government expects the cost to care, educate, feed, and protect the refugees is about $3 billion per year – roughly the same amount of money we spend on Halloween candy in the USA each year”, he said.
If done right, the response to the Syrian refugee crisis could be used as a model for how to deal with future humanitarian situations, said Halifax Mayor Mike Savage, who also took part in the day’s first panel. “And making the very hard decision to return to Syria because they can not make ends meet here”. Rather, the Liberals expect 10,000 to arrive by December 31, with 15,000 more landing in January and February, and at least an additional 10,000 later in 2016. He says Jordan, in particular, has stepped up to help, seeing its population swell about 25 percent in recent years with refugees, not only from Syria, but also Iraq. “But they need a lot more help”. All of these individuals will be identified by the United Nations before they go through the rigorous vetting process and security measures led by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which Rep. Dent has noted, “are comprehensive”. He said that “the U.S. must do more”, the rest of the world “could be doing so much more” and “we must find a political end to this conflict”.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ordered Better Shelters last Spring and Ikea has stepped up with donations of over €100 million to the United Nations Refugee Agency.
Carson said he will be announcing his own refugee strategy shortly, but has largely insisted that sending aid would be a preferable course of action. “Why do you need to create something else?”

Tamkeen, a child development charity found exploitation of minors in refugee camp is rife throughout Jordan, estimating “46% of Syrian refugee boys and 14% of girls aged 14 or over are working more than 44 hours a week”.
