Opposition mounting motivated campaign against Singh: Naidu

The Rajya Sabha on Friday witnessed uproar after the BSP demanded action against Union Minister V K Singh for making alleged anti-Dalit remarks and the SP created ruckus over RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s reported comments on Ram temple in Ayodhya.

A day prior, Goyal had described Selja’s personal experience of being asked her caste while visiting a Dwarka temple as “another incident of manufactured problem and manufactured discrimination” against which the “hurt” MP received the sympathy from nearly the whole opposition leaving the house in a limbo.

He also took exception to objections raised in the Rajya Sabha on the very presence of V.K. Singh, the former army chief, in the house.

Mayawati alleged that social and communal atomsphere in the country has detoriated since BJP came to power, as the government instead of taking action against the rabble-rousers was indulging in soft-peddling such issues. “Gen VK Singh likened Dalit children to dogs but the PM allows him to continue as minister as if nothing happened”, he had said.

Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien said he did not have a notice on the issue from the member and asked her to submit a notice.

The Congress action could unite the rest of the Opposition on this issue and compel the government to take action.

With members of the two parties not listening to his pleas for order, Kurien adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

The BSP and SP members trooped into the well, raising slogans against V.K. Singh and Bhagwat.

However, he said, the construction would be according to the court’s decision. Attacking V K Singh for denigrating Dalits, BSP leader Satish Mishra said he can not remain present in the house and unless he leaves, the house won’t function.
