Can Alabama’s Derrick Henry trample Florida the way he did Auburn?
Griffith kicked five field goals to help propel the Crimson Tide to the SEC West title with a 29-13 victory over rival Auburn on Saturday. Alabama tacked on a fifth Griffith field goal early in the fourth quarter, then sealed the game with the steady Henry diet.

“He was not asking to come out”. “Ever since the Ole Miss game they’ve had their backs against the wall and responded every possible way that you could ask them to”.
“I don’t know what the world’s coming to in our profession”, Saban said. Alabama ranks 10th nationally in time of possession (33:04) and 28th in rushing offense (206.2 ypg). “We have nothing else to do but to buy in or we’re going to repeat what we did the last two years”. “I liked the way we played past year when we had Amari Cooper catching 115 balls and running all over the place”. “Just looking forward to seeing that and hopefully the same Florida team shows up that played Florida State”. Running backs are taking repeated jabs where wide receivers receive the occasional upper cut.
Alabama’s run defense, considered one of the best around, was an obstacle.
While Alabama was the favorite going into the game, points scored in the 4th quarter display a scoring margin not necessarily reflected throughout the rest of the game. “He’s like a machine”. “We’ve got two guys we feel good about that both have experience and both have won games on the road and in our league”, Malzahn told reporters.
Obviously, predicting Henry to win the Heisman is anything but a bold prediction, but that’s because it really isn’t a prediction at all.
Did Saban pull that quote from the Heisman handbook? And in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta, Henry and Bama will be facing a much better defense than Auburn (6-6; 2-5 SEC).
As a young assistant at Syracuse, Hall of Fame coach Jim Tressel once called a sprint draw for tailback Joe Morris nine consecutive times to score a touchdown. In the second half, Louis was running free on what looked nearly like a wheel route once I saw Louis get open.
“After the last two years and how we didn’t end the season how we wanted to, it’s kind of easy to get guys to buy in”, Allen said. “They’re always very, very unsafe, so this is a risky team to have to play and certainly a team we’re gonna have to play our best against to be able to have a chance to be successful”.
“Offensively, our kids played so hard”.
In 2015, with Drake struggling with injuries and a diminished role, Henry has been the workhorse of Alabama’s offense in a way no player has been in decades.
Finally, in the second half Kiffin seemed to realize that there was nothing Auburn could do to stop Henry and continued to feed him. That is just 3.1 yards per play, a far cry from the 600 yards Auburn hung on the Alabama defense previous year.
Seven teams have rushed for 100-plus yards versus Florida, with two gaining 200 yards on the ground. By the end of the game, it was a completely different plan.
Hey, you try tackling a 6-foot-3, 242-pound man 12 times in 18 minutes. The Tigers were spent. When Auburn’s front four (namely Adams, Russell, and Lawson) got into the backfield, it caused trouble for the Alabama offense.

And the fact is, when Alabama took possession of the ball at its 19, ahead 22-13, with 7:49 to play, the Tide needed to bleed the clock. Henry converted three first downs and ran the ball 10 times before being stopped on fourth down.
