Adele’s new album ‘fastest selling record in British history’
The previous record for a new number one album was set by Oasis, whose Be Here Now sold 696,000 copies on its way to the top of the charts in 1997, albeit over a shorter period.

Nielsen Music, the authority on tracking music sales in the United States, has declared Adele’s “25” the single-week top-selling album in the USA just days after its release on November 20.
Adele is officially the UK’s biggest selling artist, as her new album becomes the fastest selling record in British history. It has been four years since Adele, the British singer/songwriter took the music world by storm with her last album, 21, but since then, she was operated on her vocal chords and faced upheavals in her personal life.
Since each album title corresponds to the age at which its songs were written, “19”, “21” and “25” are the beginnings of what could be an unconscious project on Adele’s part to chronicle the different peaks, valleys, milestones and challenges of one woman’s life as she ages. Adele is to be appreciated in the strong marketing strategy when she kept the albums from streaming services.
On the other hand, sales albums which are available online have increased from 4.6 million to 117.6 million on the same period of time.
Immediately, I fell in love with “Million Years Ago”, a dreamy harmony akin to the background music one would hear in a Parisian cafe in the spring. “25” is more a collection than an album to be played through from top to bottom.
The previous record was held by Oasis with their album Be Here Now. That is the highest one-week U.S. sales since records began in 1991.
But just because “25” is on Pandora it doesn’t mean that Adele chose them over the others.
By contrast, Ms Adkins’s latest offering sold more discs and downloads than that in its first day alone. It is Adele’s third studio album.
Before 25 was released, it always seemed like a sure thing that 25 would sell a million copies in its first week. When asked about the possibility of streaming, she replied “Yeah, probably”.

Despite Adele’s announcement of her first tour in five years, she opted not to do live performances and focus on maximizing her sales. “I think the lack of streaming is irrelevant”, Mr Talbot said.
