‘Moments ago a Palestinian murdered an Israeli and wounded another in an attack at a gas station on route 443, ‘ an army statement said on Monday, referring to a main road between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv that passes in part though the West Bank.
The violence erupted in mid-September over tensions surrounding a sensitive Jerusalem holy site and quickly spread across Israel and into the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Over half of the Palestinians killed have been alleged attackers, while others were shot during demonstrations and clashes with Israeli security forces, including along the Gaza border. The Palestinian health ministry said the shot Palestinian was 16.
There is also little optimism he will be able to convince the Palestinian and Israeli leaders to resume peace talks, which broke down more than 18 months ago.
Three Palestinian teenagers and an Israeli man die in alleged attacks in occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
A ricochet from one of the bullets he fired injured a passerby – an Israeli man, hospital officials said.
Danon was referring to the victims of the latest wave of violence, which saw 23 Israelis killed in stabbing and car-ramming attacks.
Mr Kerry said he would speak to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about how to “to push back against terrorism, to push back against senseless violence, and to find a way forward to restore calm and begin to provide opportunities”.
“Too many Israelis have been killed and stabbed, and too many Palestinians”. The Palestinians seek all of the West Bank, captured by Israel in 1967, as the heartland of their future state.
In addition, Ezra Schwartz, an 18-year-old from Kerry’s home state of MA, was killed in a West Bank shooting last week.
The other was a 27-year-old Israeli security guard who was shot in the hand by “friendly fire”, the Palestinian Maan News Agency reported.
In the morning, two Palestinian high school girls, aged 14 and 16, stabbed and lightly injured a 70-year-old Palestinian man, apparently mistaken for Israeli, in a busy outdoor market in Jerusalem.
Mizrahi was pronounced dead at the scene of the attack after paramedics attempted to resuscitate him, the Magen David Adom emergency ambulance service said.
The militant Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement said the attack, near the city of Nablus, was “a heroic response to John Kerry plans to abort the intifada [Palestinian uprising]”.
The Palestinians charge Israel has been using excessive force against attackers, even after neutralizing the threat, and some accused Israel of planting knives on attackers.
