Great planning, numerous volunteers make for a smooth Thanksgiving dinner

No matter what shape these gatherings take, most of us will be spending some of the Thanksgiving holiday eating way too much food and hanging out with relatives. The 4th Street Missionary Baptist Church will be offering a service at 7:45am on Thanksgiving.

Newberg Christian Church will also transform its weekly Community Kitchen into a holiday meal from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

“Each girl at their church set up boxes for food to bring in”, said Summer Ward, troop leader.

Shirley Watson, 64, of Sidney, was one first-time volunteer at Thursday’s dinner.

He tells News 19, “I don’t want anybody sitting in their hotel rooms feeling bad or despondent or in despair, First Baptist and St. Peters have saved the day for you”.

Urban Mission Church Thanksgiving Day Dinner, Thursday from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m.at 505 Newark Ave.

Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church is hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving Day from 2 p.m to 6 p.m. The church is located at 899 Winthrop St.in Brooklyn.

Knightsville United Methodist Church in Summerville is serving a free meal to families in the community on Thanksgiving.

Summer Ward said it’s been a valuable experience for the troop, which also help serve on Thursday. Rides and meal deliveries can be arranged by calling the church office at 252-2819.

North Bergen Emergency Relief Program Thanksgiving Dinner, today starting at 10 a.m.at 6300 Meadowview Ave.

In Jackson, turkey and all the trimmings will be served at the First Church of the Nazarene, between noon and 3:00 p.m.
