Trudeau to keep nannies, office says

Marilou Nemiada Trayvilla and Marian Pueyo were hired last month as “special assistants” in the prime minister’s residence, although their roles appear chiefly to be providing child care to the three Trudeau children, who are 19 months, six years and eight years old.

Meanwhile, New Democrat MP Sheila Malcolmson is riled by the fact the prime minister is only paying his nannies $15 to $20 per hour during the day, and $11 to $13 at night.

Railing against the Conservatives’ Universal Child Care Benefit that funnelled about $3,000 his way, he told media that “we don’t need it. And Canada can’t afford it”.

Trudeau, seen here with his wife and three children, has used Canadian taxpayers’ money to fund his own child care.

“It’s not a reflection of their child care choice – every family has a different makeup, every family has to make decisions about their child care – but I think …”

“In these times, [then Prime Minister] Mr Harper’s top priority is to give wealthy families like his and mine $2,000”, said Mr Trudeau on the campaign trail.

“It does not jive with the very strong pronouncements he made in the election campaign that taxpayers should not be subsidizing wealthy families like his”.

“Canadians – especially in Alberta, but across the country – are anxious about their standard of living, anxious about things being better for them a year from now than they are today, and more inclined to say that things today for them are worse than they were a year ago”. “Canadians would expect them to just pay for their own nanny out of their own pocket”.

Purchase would not specify what those other duties entail, but said similar arrangements have existed for Trudeau’s predecessors.

Justin Trudeau will have yet another connection to his late father: Not only is he following in Pierre Trudeau’s footsteps as Prime Minister, he’ll also be sitting at the same desk. “It is an ongoing process and will be finalized in the coming days”.

“Given the nature of the prime minister’s responsibilities and his young family, the Trudeaus employ two household employees who, in addition to performing other duties around the house, act as secondary caregivers to the three children”, said a representative for the prime minister.

But did anyone actually think that, of all the perks that go along with being prime minister, child care wouldn’t be included?
