Obama at tree lighting

Hosted by Academy Award-winner Reese Witherspoon, this year’s National Christmas Tree Lighting features a talented line-up of performers. The tree was delivered back in November from more than 4,000 miles away in Alaska, selected from almost a dozen trees from natural forests from across the United States.

An American holiday tradition started by President Calvin Coolidge in 1923, the National Christmas Tree Lighting is a great example of the countless ways there are to #FindYourPark. They will be joining Miss Piggy, Fall Out Boy, Tori Kelly, Aloe Blacc, and Crosby, Stills and Nash.

The Woman’s Club of Cranbury is sponsoring the tree lighting this year, according to township officials.

Reese Witherspoon helped President Barack Obama and the first family (and millions of people watching on the small screen) ring in the season by hosting the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on the White House Ellipse on Thursday night.

Big Red, America’s original and best-selling red soda, partners with Trees for Troops to donate live Christmas trees to military families. The ceremony will also air on PBS throughout the month of December.

The ceremony to light the Rockefeller Christmas Tree kicked off in New York City on Wednesday night local time, with stars like Sting, Andy Grammer, and Michael Buble giving performances. “Merry Christmas, everybody!” Obama said as the national tree took sparkle for the 93rd year.
