Warriors still ideal after close win vs Jazz

PHOENIX (AP) – The Golden State Warriors rained 3s in the desert and pushed their NBA-record start to 17-0.

Davidson, the team Curry played for in three seasons before the Warriors drafted him, improved to 5-0 after a 109-74 win at cross-county rival UNC Charlotte.

“We’ve had some battles and, obviously, we’ve had some lopsided victories”, Curry said. “That’s the only thing that motivates us”.

Curry, who finished with 26 points, then converted a pair of free throws to seal the win. The reigning MVP and NBA’s leading scorer had 16 points through three quarters as Draymond Green and other teammates did the heavy lifting. “They were the desperate team tonight”. “They shoot 3s like layups”. The Raptors take the third-fewest shots per game (81.1) but still score over a 100 points a night and win games on the defensive end.

Alec Burks led the team on Saturday with 21 points. Klay Thompson scored 15 for the Warriors. “Guys are always willing to step up and make plays”. “They start blending together after a while”.

But with a five-game homestand after returning home from the trip east looming, even the short term looks bright for the Dubs.

Following this most recent loss, Gobert was quoted saying, “We can be great”.

The Pistons built a 23-point lead in the first half before the Rockets got back into the game by constantly intentionally fouling Drummond – he went 4-for-18 from the line. Phoenix coach Jeff Hornacek lamented a lack of defense. That they’ve done it without their head coach has added a layer of impressiveness to the streak, serving as testament that Golden State’s system and players are the class of the league. “We didn’t do that”.

You think about when…the Miami Heat was having a pretty good run, advertising dollars were on an upswing because people wanted to see if the streak continued.

Hornacek admired the ball movement of the Warriors. They have the same record SU and ATS against the Western Conference, going 4-3. It was the fifth game of Curry’s career in which he made at least nine three-pointers. Walker notched a double-double but the Hornets were outscored 32-21 in the fourth quarter, giving the Warriors a narrow five-point win. Livingston added a jumper that gave the Warriors a 95-92 lead. The Warriors are a tough team and Steph made a lot of insane shots. In the first half, Golden State shot 66 percent overall but was even better from 3-point range at 75 percent.

It will be a tale of two tempos, as the fast-breaking Warriors (ranked third in the league in possessions per game) take on the slow-paced Jazz (29th). But the Thunder lost for the first time since he rejoined the lineup.

The Dubs are playing without Harrison Barnes, who’s nursing a sprained ankle.

“Who knows?” Curry said. Last season, they managed to win only 18 games (which the Warriors have already matched), and this season could finally prove the ultimate disaster that gets GM Sam Hinkie fired and the franchise ready to start a new rebuild.
