Mr. Chen noted that the management’s first and foremost responsibility is to offer BlackBerry’s shareholders “a good value” for their investment that is truly reflective of the company.

BlackBerry’s CEO John Chen recently clarified that he does not have any intention to sell the company.

WATERLOO, ONT.-BlackBerry has appointed Carl Wiese, a former Cisco executive, president of Global Sales. In its latest quarter, revenue tumbled 32%, despite reporting a slightly stronger profit. This spooked many analysts, who were disappointed by the weaker-than-expected core software growth.

Since few years, BlackBerry has been facing a tough time in the smartphone market as it lost a substantial chunk of its market share to devices running on iOS and Android platforms. Shares of BlackBerry closed down 1.03% to $7.69 in yesterday’s trading session. When Mr Chen went over the sales targets at an analysts’ event in San Francisco last November and received pushback from some analysts, he smiled and stated that if targets are not met he’d still be around next year, though some of his team might not.

A spokeswoman from BlackBerry declined to comment on Mr. Sims’s sudden departure.

His expertise in enterprise software is likely to contribute to Blackberry’s shifting business strategy as the company continues to search for new revenue streams in the wake of shrinking handset sales.
