China’s Xi cheers African leaders with pledge of $60 bln development aid

The summit, which officially opens today, is aimed at further enhancing China-Africa friendly cooperation by jointly tackling the challenges brought by globalisation as well as pursuing common development.
This received a round of applause from African heads of state with President Robert Mugabe describing Mr. Xi as a God-given friend of Africa.

Xi said China would strengthen its cooperation with Africa in the fight against violent extremism and would not interfere in the political choices of countries in the continent.
China helped develop and launch the Nigerian communications satellite (NigComSat-1) by 2007 to expand cellular and internet networks in Central Africa.
China is breaking bottlenecks in underdevelopment of infrastructure and scarcity of talents for Africa.
China has been investing its finance and personnel in Africa for more than a decade. He disclosed that China will also provide 40,000 technical training opportunities for Africans. Beijing endorses African integration construction.
“My government is keen on the implementation of the various projects signed with China, particularly, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), which is critical in the realization of Kenya’s development blue print – Vision 2030”, Kenyatta said in a statement issued in Nairobi.
He said the summit was a demonstration of seriousness by both parties to deepen relations at all sides for mutual benefit.
So important are the deals to the government’s economic blueprint that Zimbabwean officials, vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa included, spent a lot of time shuttling to Beijing to check on their status.

Ahead of the summit, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi had announced food security, public health and sas priority areas that would be discussed during the summit. China’s industrial modernization has entered maturity and many of its industries have gone global.
