News of the 48-year-old singer’s death was confirmed by his manager on his Facebook page as well as his Instagram account early Friday morning (December 4).
Reports of Weiland’s death began to spread Thursday night after fellow Los Angeles rocker Dave Navarro tweeted about 11 p.m. Central time: “Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died”.
Weiland’s former bandmates continued, “The memories are many, and they run deep for us”. Among the pioneers that spearheaded the music of the time were Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots.
Many expressed shock and called for prayers for the Weiland family..
Bloomington police said, after executing a search warrant, that they had discovered a small amount of a substance that tested positive as cocaine in the bedroom where Weiland was located. However, Wachtel told TMZ that her husband has not been involved with drugs for some time.
Scott Weiland seemed healthy and sober during what turned out to be his final concert with his band the Wildabouts this week in Toronto but “something was off”, says a photographer who shot the show and worked with the band in the past. They released two albums together, Slither and Fall to Pieces, before Weiland left the band in 2008 to focus on STP. The Medical Examiner’s office gave no cause of death in a brief statement on Friday. He also performed with the group Velvet Revolver for a number of years.
Formed in 1989 in San Diego, California, Stone Temple Pilots scored several hit songs in the ’90s, including “Big Empty”, “Vasoline”, “Interstate Love Song”, and “Plush“, the latter of which won the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. 34-year-old guitarist Jeremy Brown died of multiple-drug intoxication in March, a day before the release of the band’s debut album.
Those sources reportedly said Weiland – whose drug abuse hampered his career for two decades – was not back on heroin, which was reportedly his drug of choice at various times in his life.

Lastly, I’d like to share a thought which though clumsy, I hope would please Scott In Hominum.
