Historically, Black Panther has been considered by most to be the richest comic book character in either DC Comics or Marvel, a scientific genius, an expert combatant, and a straight up bad-ass. Coogler has been on Marvel’s radar for awhile now, with rumblings that they were hoping to secure him before his calendar got too full once CREED hit theaters.

“Creed” director Ryan Coogler is in negotiations to direct “Black Panther” for Marvel and Disney, an individual with knowledge of the situation has told TheWrap.

Coogler, whose cinematic debut was the festival favorite Fruitvale Station, is negotiating on the heels of the acclaimed and lucrative release of Creed on November 25. With “Creed” now behind him, Coogler had a change of heart and took the studio up on the offer of directing the film. “I loved that they reached out to me”. “But I do believe that the opportunity for the film to have more nuance will come when you looking at filmmakers that bring a little bit of that from their personal experience”.

“I love our scenes together because I do think they feel a sense of responsibility”.

Chadwick Boseman is set to star as the title hero in Black Panther which features a script by Joe Robert Cole. “Because it’s really a marriage, and for this it would be three years”, DuVernay said during her keynote speech (via Entertainment Weekly). “Marvel has a certain way of doing things and I think they’re fantastic and a lot of people love what they do”. So it’s important to me that that be true to who I was in this moment.

As with many high profile movies, weve heard a number of different rumors about who might direct Marvels upcoming Black Panther. He’s featured prominently in the teaser trailer which dropped last month.
