New Delhi: ex- Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said he would have no problem if Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit invited separatists for Eid Milan party to be hosted here on July 21.

Defending the move, the Pakistan High Commission issued a statement, saying, “There is nothing unusual about our invite to Hurriyat leaders”.

The comments come just days after big breakthroughs were resulted in Ufa, Russia, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in a resumption of talks. “The hype being created by some is unfortunate, to put it mildly”. “Pakistan will continue extending its full moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their legitimate struggle for self determination as provided for in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”.

They said the separatist leaders from all the factions of Hurriyat Conference and other independent groups, members of Kashmir Bar Association, civil society and some prominent journalists have been invited for the event.

“Pakistan has repeatedly demonstrated that they have scant respect for the sensibilities of India”.

The last time Kashmir separatists visited the Pakistan high commission was in August 2014 for a meeting with the Pakistan ambassador to India ahead of the proposed foreign secretary level talks, which enraged Indian authorities and led to the breakdown of the secretary-level talks.

However, in a turnaround, Pakistan today asked for “more evidence and information” from India on the Mumbai attack case and asserted that talks can not take place without Kashmir being on the agenda.
