Manuel Pellegrini ready to welcome big names back into Manchester City side

Liverpool tore Southampton apart at St. Mary’s this evening, running out 6-1 winners to book themselves a spot in the final four in style.

Manchester City are on course to reclaim the trophy they won in 2014 after their 4-1 Capital One Cup quarter-final win over Hull City. The draw to determine their next opponents took place after the match, and Liverpool ended up with a familiar foe they’ve already faced in the league this season. Very complete, defensively strong, good movement, and they killed the game with high quality, but (it was) too easy in my opinion. City, on their other hand, have recently struggled away from home and have failed to win any in of their last three outings, losing one and drawing two. “He’s someone that gets in and around the box and creates and scores goals”, Sterling was quoted as saying by British media. He is improving and we will see tomorrow or Thursday if he can play on Saturday.

“The most important thing is to continue with options in all the games you play”.

Manchester City are the outright favourites for the competition after reaching the last four by thrashing Championship side Hull 4-1.

Pellegrini stressed it is crucial for his side to make a fast start against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.

The duo’s return is well timed as City look to pull clear of second-placed Leicester, who are behind the leaders on goal difference.

Ahead of this week’s cup clash, Hull City were coming off the back of defeat to Derby County, which followed a draw against relegation-threatened Bristol City, and they travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United next weekend to get their bid for promotion back on track.

City had won their last six League Cup ties against sides from a lower division, conceding just two goals in the process, and there appeared little chance of Hull bucking that trend once the hosts surged into a 12th minute lead.

“There was a desire and will from the owners to really try and move it on very, very quickly, probably more quickly than I thought initially”, he added.

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku’s goals have been behind the recent success and former Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu was outstanding against Middlesbrough.

“I had absolutely no problem with a match against Everton”, Klopp shot back.

Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne will the obvious dangermen but the one player who always troubles the Toffees, Yaya Toure, will be the one to watch.
