In an interview with NBC News, Farhan Khan, Saira’s husband, expressed the same anger and confusion over the incident.

He says the counterterrorism infrastructure is built on preventing tightly organized attacks directed by a specific group, not detecting people inspired by IS but operating independently. It has also emerged Malik praised IS on Facebook as she and her husband began spraying bullets at his colleagues in the county health department. The landlord later asked media to leave.
