Carson meets Syrian refugees, opposes them coming to US
He made a similar trip to refugee camps along the Syrian-Jordanian border last Thanksgiving. “That’s the amount of money that was needed to bridge the shortfall for a year that they’re having in Jordan with the refugees”.

The minister also repeated his plea for private individuals and businesses to step forward and help with housing the refugees, and eventually helping them find jobs. “They said all we need is more global support”. Colyer says the US should work with allies in the region to help Syrians return to their homes, rather than bring a small number to the U.S.
“The people there, I had an opportunity to talk to numerous Syrians”, Carson told WBFF Monday, “of course their great desire is to go back home, to be resettled in their homeland”. Refugees settled in the USA undergo extensive vetting, taking an average of 18-24 months, before they are admitted, but many Americans are still concerned that the refugee population will be infiltrated by ISIS terrorists. Majority hope to return to Syria one day, but some are unable to, and nobody wants to stay in the camps, she noted.
During winter it becomes harder to charge the solar powered lanterns that residents rely on to light their shelters by night, plunging homes into darkness and putting an abrupt end to family life when they run out.
Not only that, Colyer maintains that Gov. Sam Brownback and more than 30 other states’ governors have a legitimate security concern. His family of six are the only ones among Zaatari’s 79,120 residents known to have received a text message from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees inviting them for an interview that could put them on track for resettlement to Canada. Carson did not advocate bringing Syrian refugees to the US.
“We would make sure they get appropriate treatment”.
More importantly, though, Colyer said he believes providing direct humanitarian aid in Syria and to its neighbors would be the most effective way of dealing with the crisis.
The Jordanian monarch told a Canadian ministerial delegation that his country now hosts some 1.4 million Syrian refugees.
“I think the solution will be to have some of these refugees resettled and we are very happy for the contribution of your government”, he added. “We need to help people where they are”.
Colyer, a plastic surgeon, first volunteered with the International Medical Corps in 1985 during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and has continued to work for the organization in conflict zones around the globe in the decades since then. As for criticism that elected officials and candidates are politicizing the refugee situation, Colyer says that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Upon concluding his global visit, Carson expressed a new understanding of the men, women and children trying to escape a Syrian civil war.
