Liverpool sweating on key man ahead of Newcastle game

The Reds travel to Newcastle on the back of a magnificent run of seven wins in eight matches that has catapulted them into the title race.

These are indeed plausible reasons, but Klopp again calmed title talk following the 6-1 demolition of Southampton in the week.

Michael Owen is tipping Liverpool to continue their recent good form by securing a Premier League victory at Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

At the time, I argued this was wishful thinking in the extreme, and after missing three games in a row, Klopp has confirmed Coutinho’s injury is more serious than he initially thought. Both will be in contention to start against Newcastle.

“He did well in the last game and the plan before the game was to play about 55-60 minutes so that is what we did”.

The Brazil global has not played for two weeks and the Anfield manager added: “I like optimism but with Phil we were too optimistic. Sometimes it happens like this and there’s nothing to criticise about it”, Klopp told reporters on Friday.

“They are not stupid, they know what they need to do better and it is good that after Wednesday we can show a reaction”. We try to make the best with the players we have and at this moment we don’t know what is best. “We will wait. I can wait, until he is available”.

“Football always looks only like work in hard times”. “There are another 30, 35 games to go this season depending on the cups and I don’t know how long it will take and I don’t think about that”, he said.

“You can’t always play with a miserable face – ok, that’s how I play tennis but that’s my problem!” he said, fittingly with a smile.

“Of course, he felt each muscle after the game and that’s normal because it was intensive”. But yesterday nobody gave me the sign.

Henderson has made two short substitute appearances – his first since the second game of the season after a heel problem was followed by a broken foot. If you have it, somebody can kick it in the game and you don’t have it. And if you don’t have it, you can get it back easily.
