Wenger: Sanchez could have been killed

The Arsenal manager was speaking after Alexis Sanchez fell into a cameraman positioned below the Carrow Road pitch after being pushed by Norwich’s Ryan Bennett last Sunday.

Although Wenger has not linked the incident – from which Sánchez escaped unscathed – with the hamstring injury the 26-year-old sustained a few minutes later, he remains furious at the risk to his player’s health.

The French manager was cynical after the incident, claiming that the South American star could even have died in the accident. “He could’ve killed him, he didn’t need to push like he did”.

“First of all it is unsafe to have a camera there”. Nobody suggested that he could displace his back or his hamstring.

‘When he was pushed into the boards on the side of the field that did not shock anybody, the injury can come from that as well’.

It hands a significant blow to Arsenal, who are also without Alexis Sanchez, and Wenger again stated the full extent of the Chilean’s hamstring injury is not yet clear. A hamstring injury. He had hamstring injuries in Barcelona as well. “I had players who, after two or three injuries, subconsciously refused to sprint”. I don’t know more than you.

It is understood the league have already written to Norwich about the matter.

“I’ve spent a fair amount of time on all that”. I’m not expert enough to know but if you want to blame me I’m OK with it.

“We know his lateral collateral ligament has been touched, he might have a capsular problem as well”.

“We have tests as well, we have medical tests”. I really hope Arsenal start to see the Ramsey that took the Premier League by storm and put us on track for the title, but he is under pressure and has sometimes exhausted too hard in those circumstances.

‘I could see he was not completely but every time I asked if he was alright and he said he was OK. “Call it repetition. Sadly, it gets a little bit boring for them”.

Ultimately, the player moved to Russian side Rubin Kazan on a £8.6 million deal [Metro]-a move that took him out of the central narratives of the European game.

“It could be a rupture”, Wenger said.
