Coldplay joins an esteemed list of recent halftime acts including Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2 and more.
Last year, National Football League had Katy Perry as a performer during halftime alongside Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot, The Sun noted.
Their music awards include seven Grammy awards out of 25 nominations, eight Brit Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, and winning Best British Group three times.
There will also be a “special guest” performing with Coldplay but their identity has not been revealed. The “Pepsi Present: The Super Bowl Halftime Show Show” will air on Pepsi.com and will be a behind-the-scenes extravaganza for fans who wish to see what it takes to build the stage for the epic Coldplay performance.
The album features more guests than any other Coldplay record, with Beyonce, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo and Merry Clayton appearing on the record. (No, “Yellow” does not refer to the color of referees’ flags or the first-down line you see on TV.) On Twitter, some made snide jokes about the news, citing Coldplay’s reputation for pretty songs with few rough edges.
