Col Patrick Ryder, a spokesman for US Central Command, said the Russian air strikes in recent days targeted more IS areas, including the group’s oil infrastructure.
Russian aircraft have been delivering strikes against facilities of the Islamic State terrorist organization in Syria since September 30 at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Russian Federation is pounding the jihadists in Syria with bombs emblazoned with the words “For our People” and “For Paris” after Moscow vowed vengeance following the bombing of a plane over Sinai.
The resolution, which does not provide a legal basis for military action, urges those countries who can to “take all necessary measures, in compliance with worldwide law… on the territory under the control of ISIL…in Syria and Iraq”. Another video published Friday captures a “massive strike with cruise missiles” fired by Russian ships from the Caspian Sea.
Russian Foreign Ministry official Ilya Rogachev earlier on Friday criticized France’s justification for the attacks, that they were self-defense according to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
Syrian state TV also reported that Mheen and Hawareen were captured, adding that government forces are now removing the mines and explosives left behind by the extremist group to try to slow down the army’s advance.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Russia’s bombing blitz this week by warplanes and cruise missiles from navy ships destroyed 15 oil refining and storage facilities in Syria and 525 trucks carrying oil, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Friday.
He said the Russian military air fleet in Syria was reinforced by 8 Su-34 bombers and a unit of Sy-27SM3 jet fighters, according to the report.
