San Bernardino Shooters Praised By Islamic State As Martyrs, Supporters

Tashfeen Malik, a suspect in the San Bernardino massacre that killed 14 people and injured 21 others, posted a pledge of allegiance to ISIS on Facebook shortly after the rampage began. The couple’s 6-month-old child is now in the care of child protective services, but the family is trying to gain custody of her, the attorneys said.

Farook’s mother lived in the rented townhouse with the couple, but even she did not claim to know Malik.

However, Comey said so far there was no indication that pointed to the husband-and-wife shooters’ affiliation to any group.

“We feel for them”, she said.

Khan described Farook as a “quiet kid” who grew up alongside her in the U.S. before eventually marrying Malik, a native of Pakistan who was raised and spent most of her life in Saudi Arabia.

Police said that the couple had two assault-style rifles, two semi-automatic handguns and 1,600 rounds of ammunition in their vehicle.

Malik reportedly made a post on Facebook in which she “pledged allegiance” to ISIS, and had also made a post Wednesday praising ISIS leaders.

The LA Times reports Farook, was born in IL of immigrant parents from Pakistan, and was a Muslim who was recently “radicalized” when he visited Saudi Arabia. The FBI says it is investigating the incident as a terrorist attack, partly because of internet postings that suggest a connection to radical Islam.

A bomb squad inspected a package at a UPS facility in Southern California after a driver discovered it was addressed to the home of the San Bernardino shooters. Malik wore a burka, which meant Farook’s brothers never saw her face, and she would only sit with women. “He was married, he had a daughter and previous year he made $77,000″, said Gasser Shehata, 42, who attended the same mosque as Farook.

Hussam Ayloush, the executive director of the LA chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said at a news conference that “the suspect and his wife are missing”.

“I only found out about this tragedy today when some intelligence officials contacted me to ask me about my links with Tashfeen”, Malik’s uncle Javed Rabbani said.
