IS Claims Responsibility for San Bernardino Shooting

The official told the Times “some type” of contact between Farook and the terror groups, but it was unclear what kind of contact the parties had.

The Islamic State group said Saturday that it played a role in the California mass shooting, but stopped short of claiming the attack, stating that the episode was carried out by “soldiers” of its caliphate. Both died in a later shootout with police, and the FBI is investigating the massacre as an “act of terrorism”.

In now-deleted Facebook posts, Malik expressed her admiration for ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi using an alias, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed to Mashable.

To receive her visa, Malik was subjected to a vetting process the USA government describes as vigorous.

Authorities said that the couple sprayed as many as 75 rounds into the room before fleeing and had more than 1,600 rounds left when they were killed.

Many local and national outlets took the opportunity to show the interior of the house on live TV, showing such items as a crib, toys, a child’s book of the Quran, family pictures and shredded documents.

“People in this country and the world need protection”, Trump told reporters in Iowa before a campaign event.

The president’s pledge and extremists’ praise followed an announcement by the FBI that it was treating the investigation into the San Bernardino rampage as an act of terrorism. FBI Director James Comey affirmed the bureau’s LA office’s characterization earlier Friday.

USA authorities have said that the couple may have been radicalized and their attack may have been inspired by the terrorists, but said there was no evidence the attack was directed by the Islamic State or that the militants even knew who they were. She said the case should cause people to rethink some of their assumptions about extremism. The Facebook official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not allowed under corporate policy to be quoted by name, said the company discovered Wednesday’s post on Thursday, removed the profile from public view and reported its contents to law enforcement.

“There is no indication that these killers are part of an organized larger group or form part of a cell”. So far, there’s no proof that anyone was directing them from overseas. The agency also acknowledged knowing little about Malik.

Attorney Mohammad Abuershaid said few people came in contact with Malik, who wore the full-face veil and was soft-spoken and shy. She was a conservative Muslim and she did not interact with the male members of Farook’s family. Sources close to his family insisted that his marriage to Malik was not arranged. However, Saudi authorities say there is no record of her ever being a resident there. “She was very happy that night”, said Nasima Nila, 31, who attended the reception at the Islamic Centre of Riverside.

“Our brother… went to Saudi and since then he doesn’t care about anyone here”, Bibi said. All but two were county employees and co-workers of Farook. He was one of the 14 killed in Wednesday’s attack.

The couple had left their infant daughter with Farook’s mother before the attack, according to a relative. But the official said there was no sign that anyone affiliated with the Islamic State communicated back with her.
