Chinese online media have already published reports about President Buhari calling China a strategic and dependable partner.

The day December 4, 2015 is a historic moment for China-Africa relations.

“These plans aim at addressing three issues holding back Africa’s development, namely inadequate infrastructure, lack of professional and skilled personnel and funding shortage”.

He said co-operation with China was based on “sincerity, mutual trust, equality, win-win co-operation and mutual benefit”.

Ismail praised as historical relations between Egypt and China, stressing the importance of boosting joint cooperation. “Some countries raised this at bilateral meetings”.

The Chinese president pointed out that the Chinese and African people have similar historical experiences and share a common aspiration for development as he stressed that both sides have shared responsibility to maintain and strengthen the time-honored friendship.

China supports African countries’ efforts in exploring a development path in line with their own national conditions, said the president.

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe told Chinese President Xi Jinping that he had done for Africa “what we expected from colonisers in history” by giving Africa a $60 billion aid package.

China is ready to promote pragmatic cooperation with Djibouti in various areas and jointly set a good example for developing countries seeking win-win cooperation and common progress, Xi noted. China also actively engages in the global counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast. “During the upcoming summit, leaders of China and Africa will gather in South Africa to discuss the ways to further align China and Africa’s development strategies and map out the new blueprint for China-Africa cooperation”.

Unless South Africa added more value to its exports to China, the trade gap would continue to widen as 80 percent of South Africa’s exports to China were mineral commodities.

Xi also promised to provide assistance to help upgrade African healthcare facilities, train hundreds of journalists and provide satellite reception in 10,000 African villages. “That’s the big change from 2012”, he said, referring to the last Focac conference, in Beijing.

“In looking to China for economic assistance and co-operation, we must look within Africa before we look beyond SADC because there is a lot we can learn from each other”.

“I’d like to sincerely thank President Xi, for his huge contribution in making this partnership successful, and for his commitment to taking the relationship with Africa to its highest level ever”, he said.

The Chinese leader made the announcement at a major summit between China and Africa in Johannesburg. The summit, this time, has been a resounding success.

But it’s a partnership that hasn’t always been described as equal – with China accused of plundering Africa’s rich resources.
