SEC commissioner: League leading the way on social issues
Monday morning at the 31 media days gathering (also my 31), I stepped into a ballroom with 1,200 of my closest friends at the Hyatt Wynfrey in the Birmingham suburb of Hoover.

We will have live updates right here throughout Sankey’s speech, as well as for the questions and answer that follow it. The games are in honor of former commissioner Mike Slive, who has underwent treatment for the disease.
The SEC Network now has 70 million subscribers, which equals a lot of money for the league’s programs. Obviously, it is a different day. “Times are changing, and that seemed an appropriate both song title and lyric, one that I’ve heard many times by the way”.
Sankey said he is “proud” of how South Carolina, Mississippi State and Ole Miss handled the recent debate over the confederate flag. Sankey’s overall message is the SEC will continue to be a leader in anything going on in collegiate athletics, from cost-of-attendance to autonomy issues and more. Sankey has advocated transparency throughout the process. The league defined serious misconduct as sexual assault, domestic violence or other forms of sexual violence..
Sankey acknowledged that his first address as commissioner was a bit of a moment for me. The veteran college administrator is very familiar with the leagues inner workings since being hired in 2002.
Clearly, coaches have a responsibility for the young people on their rosters, Sankey said. “It’s clear today and has been over time”. Over the past three years, he’s been officially in charge of the league’s day-to-day operations.
The SEC’s annual Media Days kick off Monday in Hoover, Ala.

Now, Sankey is the man front and center. Knowing there has been some criticism about the SEC’s football standing after two seasons without a national champion, Sankey said the SEC “may not win every championship, we will aspire to achieve that goal and we’ll do so with our heads held high”.
