Lines between Skipton and Carlisle were blocked because of flooding, leading to cancellations or delays, Northern Rail said. “On both occasions we saw communities rally together to provide mutual support and church families of all denominations extend the Christian hand of love and support to those who needed help”.
The warning is due to remain active until the early hours of tomorrow morning.
These are the highest warnings that can be issued and indicate that extreme weather is expected.
Businesses were advised to prepare for the worst.
