NBC’s live production of “The Wiz” turned out to be a ratings success for the network.

“The Wiz” cast was lead by newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy flanked by stars Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, David Alan Grier, Elijah Kelley, Common, Uzo Aduba and Amber Riley.
If you missed the live broadcast, NBC will be airing The Wiz again on December 19, 2015 at 8pm.
The Wiz Live! eased on down the road to some incredible ratings!
Two years ago, NBC surprised the television industry by reaching 18.6 million people for its production of “The Sound of Music” with Carrie Underwood. The retro camerawork didn’t help, constantly going in for closeups when one yearned to see the fully populated stage, letting the viewer be the editor, a chief distinction between live theater and watching a film or TV movie.

As anyone with a pulse should have expected, NBC’s The Wiz Live! was a huge hit. “Global digital marketing technology company Amobee Brand Intelligence said The Wiz Live! attracted 1.374 million tweets during its three-hour telecast window – more than four times the number generated previous year during the live telecast of Peter Pan Live”, Variety reports. I think these live musicals are great family viewing (except for those darn poppies) and I look forward to what NBC produces next.
