Two years ago, NBC surprised the television industry by reaching 18.6 million people for its production of “The Sound of Music” with Carrie Underwood. The only NBC entertainment series to fare better this fall is “The Voice”, whose season premiere averaged a 3.5/11 in 18-49 and 12.37 million.

Versus high-rated National Football League competition on CBS, is now #1 for the night in all key adult-female demos and kids 2-11. Excluding awards shows and political events, The Wiz was the most live-tweeted program since Nielsen Social began tracking Twitter TV activity in October 2011, with about 1.6 million tweets about the show, more than tripling NBC’s previous live specials.

TiVo said the show’s top moment for people rewinding and watching again came when the Munchkins told Dorothy to “follow the yellow-brick road”.

The most Tweeted minute occurred at 8:49 pm ET with 15,218 Tweets after Neyo hit the dab. “The Sound of Music Live!” had great numbers in kicking off this trend, but most of the reviews were tepid at best.

With The Wiz Live having proven to be an across-the-board success after airing Thursday, Dec. 3, on the network, the show’s producers are now admitting that their 2014 effort didn’t quite soar.
