United States shooters in San Bernardino ‘pledged allegiance to ISIS’

U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) chief James Comey said Friday that San Bernardino shooting was being investigated as potential terrorism, but there was “no indication” suggesting killers of the holiday party carnage had been part of any terrorist group.

The attack was the deadliest mass shooting the United States has seen in 3 years.

The attackers, who have been identified as husband and wife Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, were killed in a shootout with police just hours after the massacre at the Inland Regional Center social services agency in San Bernardino, California.

The terrorism classification will be determined once investigators are able to work out the motive of the attack, which remains unknown.

Bowdich could not confirm the authenticity of a Facebook post in which the female suspect appeared to pledge her allegience to ISIS.

The FBI also believes that the perpetrators of the attack engaged in extensive pre-planning and made attempts to destroy their digital footprint. And their new cell phones were apparently smashed.

Officials say part of the reason may have been Farook’s apparent radicalization.

“For example, right now, people on the No-Fly list can walk into a store and buy a gun”, Obama said.

Farook had traveled to Saudi Arabia and to Pakistan, authorities have said. Farook, 28, was born in IL and worked for the San Bernardino County health agency as an inspector.

“I won’t answer, because we don’t talk about the investigative techniques we use”, Comey said Friday, according to the Associated Press. The officials did not explain how they knew Malik made the post.

Police detailed the extent of the arsenal of a dozen pipe bomb-style devices and more than 4,500 rounds of ammunition that were found at the couple’s Redlands, California, home, as well as the 1,600 rounds they had in the rental auto they were driving during their face-off with police.

Asked whether authorities were concerned about media entering the couple’s apartment, Bowdich replied: “Once we turn that location back over to the occupants of that residence or once we board it up, anyone who goes in at that point has nothing to do with us”.
