He noted that GoPro is now selling five cameras with a price range from $499 or less, which he thinks confuses consumers because they have different SKUs.

The action camera maker on Friday announced it’s dropping the price of its compact and easy-to-use Hero4 Session to $199 – or half off its original price.

The company’s stock price went down from its highest level of $74.50 to as low as $17.55 per share over the 52 weeks. And the HERO4 Session is Bluetooth and WiFi enabled and captures wide-angle 1080p video and 8 megapixel photos.

The move came after Ambarella (NASDAQ:AMBA), which makes image processing chips for GoPro cameras, signaled weakening sales in the action camera market late Thursday. The company hopes that positioning cameras such as the Session as gifts will help boost ailing sales for GoPro cameras which have led to crisis in investor confidence.

There are now four different GoPro cameras which are available for less than $300.

Nick Woodman, CEO and founder of GoPro, said in a statement, “The waterproof Hero4 Session is so durable and easy to use…”

“HERO4 Session packs the power of GoPro into our smallest, lightest, most convenient camera yet, featuring a rugged and waterproof design, easy one-button control, revolutionary battery efficiency, 1080p60 video and 8MP photos”, GoPro boasts on the Hero4 Session product page. The specs for the camera are certainly not comparable to GoPro’s Black and Silver lineup, however it is a good way for customers to introduce themselves to the GoPro family of cameras. Waterproof to 33 feet (10m), Session doesn’t require a separate waterhousing which means it’s always ready for adventure and captures crisp, clear audio even when used during snow and watersports.
