Last night, NBC aired its third live musical, “The Wiz Live!”. Celebrities are raving about her performance in the show. The retro camerawork didn’t help, constantly going in for closeups when one yearned to see the fully populated stage, letting the viewer be the editor, a chief distinction between live theater and watching a film or TV movie.
NBC’s live musical, “The Wiz Live!”, brought in 11.1 million viewers on Thursday night, according to NBC. Last year’s version of “Peter Pan”, however, reached 9.1 million and producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said recently that they feared NBC wouldn’t want to do any more musicals if ratings for “The Wiz” weren’t better. Two years ago, NBC’s staging of “The Sound of Music Live!” delivered 18.6 million live-plus-same-day viewers and a 4.6 in the 18-to-49 demo. It was the Peacock Network’s best Thursday since 2010-apart from Carrie Underwood’s big night, of course.
In December 2013, “The Sound of Music Live” experienced 147,212 Twitter subscribers posting 474,735 tweets, which were witnessed by 5.32 million people a total of 106.86 million times.
