Major League Baseball Advanced Media used all of the home run data acquired over the previous year by Statcast, and they simulated the Home Run Derby 10,000 times. Pujols, meanwhile, is Pujols – a future first-ballot Hall of Famer experiencing a career renaissance who has participated in three past Derbies and reached the finals in 203. His best finish was as a finalist in 2003.

Pederson is competing in his first Home Run Derby.

It’s in Cincinnati, so naturally you have to have one for every HR hit by Todd Frazier. Pederson will likely fare well in the launching pad of Great American Ball Park.

Obviously, everyone in the Derby has some pop in their bat, but the longest home run of the night might come from an unexpected source.

Monday night will be the 30th All Star Derby. He wasn’t alone, though: of the eight-man field, only Ryne Sandberg (3), Mark McGwire (1), and Matt Williams (1) hit a home run.

Just for laughs, how many feet would it take in order to make the water on the fly? The left-handed batters in the competition – Fielder, Pederson, Rizzo – take note. For the first time, the contestants will be on a clock. Each player gets five minutes to crush as many home runs as they can-i.e. there are no outs like in years past.

Distance does matter under the new rules with extra time being added for balls hit at least 420 feet. If the two players in a match are tied after each has their turn, there will be a 90-second tiebreaker, during which the clock will not stop, and no bonus time can be gained. And in the last of the first-round matchups, Donaldson of the hard-hitting Toronto Blue Jays, who have scored the most runs in the league, will go up against the second Cub in this derby, that being Rizzo.
