New England and the Mid-Atlantic regions were 2015’s biggest winners, with growth of 13.1 and 12.9 percent, respectively, versus losses of 2-3 percentage points a year ago, likely attributable to severe weather in New England and the Mid-Atlantic states.

As usual, Amazon did not disclose the actual numbers, but it did say that sales of its own devices tripled during the Thanksgiving Weekend through Cyber Monday. Companies still consider this an integral part of sales as millions of customers have switched to mobile devices as their mode of shopping and this number continues to mushroom. Some of the most popular items on weekend shopping lists included televisions from Samsung, Sony and LG Electronics, as well as the Apple Watch and Beats by Dre headphones, according to IBM’s Watson Trend app. Other popular choices are hoverboards, Nike running shoes, Activision Blizzard’s Skylanders video-game series and Star Wars R2-D2 droids. Also, there was a 36% increase in orders placed online by United Kingdom consumers with USA retailers on the Sunday after Black Friday compared to this same day in 2014. Mobile spending, or sales via smartphones and tablets, jumped 53 percent to $838 million, making up 27 percent of total online spending. Overall, there was a 3% increase in Canadians placing orders online this year with USA retailers compared to Black Friday 2014.
