Abdullah hopes for resumption of Indo-Pak dialogue

Abdullah said that India and Pakistan should “provide greater autonomy” to Kashmir under their control and make borders irrelevant by “allowing free travel and trade” across it. Apart from the meeting of security officials, the cricket boards of both countries last week agreed in principle to play a short series in Sri Lanka, in what would be their first meeting since 2012.

Referring to the human rights violations of minorities in India, he said New Delhi should revisit its extremist policies.

India has been invited for the conference.

The Foreign Affairs experts are terming this meeting a continuance of meeting between prime ministers of both countries, Nawaz Sharif and Narendra Modi in Paris.

The meeting comes in wake of reports that India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is likely to visit Pakistan next week for a regional conference on Afghanistan.

“We do not know what they talked about but let us hope that they find some way of resolving this (Jammu and Kashmir) issue”, the NC leader said addressing the party supporters at Mr Sheikh Abdullah’s mausoleum on the banks of Dal Lake.

Former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today welcomed the talks between National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan in Bangkok, stating that holding the dialogue away from media glare can lead to “quiet progress”.
