On Tuesday, David Price inked a massive deal with the Boston Red Sox.

Price will earn $31 million per year courtesy of a seven-year, $217 million deal with the Boston Red Sox.

Yes, it was a ton of money (this is the largest deal for a pitcher ever, beating Clayton Kershaw by $2 million), but that’s what it took to get him, and they needed him. It is expected to be announced Friday, the person told the AP. But he struggled in the AL playoffs, going 1-2 with a 6.17 ERA in the Blue Jays’ first postseason action since 1993. The Red Sox, after back-to-back last place finishes in the East, are back in a big way, with Dave Dombrowski’s new regime establishing Boston as the favorite to win the pennant in 2016 before even getting to the winter meetings. Dombrowski has had a hand in all three of Price’s moves the past two years.

Much was made of the Cubs’ hopes of landing Price because he pitched for manager Joe Maddon with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Price was acquired by the Blue Jays near the trade deadline last season in a deal with the Detroit Tigers.

Over his last four seasons, the 30-year-old left-hander has averaged 213 strikeouts in 217 innings.

So was the trade last month for All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel. The Boston Golbe was the first to report the contract, which would be the richest in Red Sox history. The Red Sox reportedly then pushed for an answer from Price so they wouldn’t lose out on Greinke if the former chose to sign elsewhere. As he signs with the Red Sox, he will be joining Clay Buchholz, Rick Porcello, Wade Miley, and Eduardo Rodriguez. Please see our terms of service for more information.

The $31m average value of the contract is set to make Price the highest-paid pitcher in the history of the game.

If the Sox had a young, controllable future No. 1 starter in their system, it might not have been such a disgusting blunder.

“For that, I am forever thankful”, Stroman wrote. Treating everyone with class and respect. Showing up early, and staying late. He is a veteran and smart hitter who can become an effective mentor to the younger guys in the team.

Toronto outfielder Kevin Pillar also shared a message for Price. When Blue Jays ownership invested in the team in 2015, the fans responded, and having a team that was a World Series contender brought massive audiences, both in the stadium and on television.
