Peyton Manning prepares to resume rehab work Saturday

The New England Patriots issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the condition of tight end Rob Gronkowski’s right knee, saying his playing status is week to week after suffering a bone bruise/sprain during Sunday night’s game in Denver.

Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler (17) throws against the New England Patriots during the second half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, in Denver.

Before the season started, no one would’ve ever believed Osweiler would be capable of such a feat. The team has lost Dion Lewis and Aaron Dobson for the season while Julian Edelman is out with a foot injury and Danny Amendola is dealing with a knee injury that has him questionable for this week.

On the winning play, Osweiler, who swears he never let a day go by where he didn’t learn a lesson from Manning, diagnosed the defense and checked into a run.

They have a fascinating match-up Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium in what could likely be their last sojourn into San Diego as the lame-duck Chargers seem a likely candidate to migrate northward to Los Angeles. “Nothing has changed with where we’re headed this week”.

Another reason the Broncos might look to stick with Osweiler is because of the rejuvenation of the Broncos’ dual-back rushing attack in his two starts. So, at least the Patriots won’t have to deal with the stress of having a flawless season, as that role now can go to the Panthers, who are still at 11 and zero.

In Manning’s nine starts this season, running back CJ Anderson only rushed for one touchdown all season. His 62.3 completion percentage rating is above the league average which is 61.3 and his 7.54 yards per attempt is also above the league average.

Since losing Manning due to this injury, Brock Osweiler has taken the reigns under center and hasn’t done poorly, leading the Broncos to two straight wins.

Manning said he had not talked to head Coach Gary Kubiak about whether he would make the trip. And Brock knows that he’s the starting quarterback for this team, this week. The team has played really well two weeks in a row. Everybody said, ‘Well, when did he say it’s going to get better?’ When it heals.

“Listen, like I told you guys [media] before, we’re totally committed to getting our quarterback – getting Peyton healthy and getting him back”.
