Garry Monk not certain to keep Swansea job

Garry Monk has admitted the club “deserves better” after labelling Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat by Leicester as “very bleak”.

Monk said before the Leicester game that he felt his side had turned a corner following an improved performance in the 1-0 defeat at in-form Liverpool the previous weekend.

“He knows exactly what he is doing”.

Chairman Huw Jenkins and the rest of the board have been desperate to stand by a man who has given the club 12 years of loyal service, and guided them to a best Premier League finish of eighth just last term.

“He has built on what they did last season, that momentum that they had, and put his own stamp on it and they are flying”.

While the focus will be on Monk’s future, several of his players could hardly have been accused of giving their all to keep him in a job. We are in a situation where people need to step up to the plate.

“I have belief in myself”, he said. It is extremely frustrating and that is putting it nicely. “Results are not acceptable and I accept that more than anyone else”.

“I am trying to find all the ways to make it better and produce”. “We have to play very well to get through this period against the big dogs. We are more than capable of coming through it but you have to look inside yourself and work harder than ever before”.

“There is barely a day I can say there was a bad training session or they didn’t quite understand it. Unfortunately you go on that pitch and it doesn’t work out and you wonder the reasons why”. Just after that first goal, confidence affected us again.

“I believe I am the man to turn things around but it is out of my hands”. That’s never in question.
