According to the latest update on Carter’s health provided by the Carter Center on November 10, recent tests had shown there was “no evidence of new malignancy and his original problem is responding well to treatment”.
But since then, Carter has continued to teach Sunday School and continued to help build homes for Habitat for Humanity.
Carter said his doctors didn’t know – and may never know – where the melanoma originated. The response on the Fox News Facebook page was much different, as one member commented, “Jimmy Carter is cancer of the brain!”
Mr Carter, a one-time peanut farmer and former Georgia governor, served one term as USA president, from 1977 to 1981. Carter was told in May and June that he had cancer and he had part of his liver removed.
Later in August, Carter began a new drug, known as Keytruda, that had proved promising in other patients.
He has been extremely active as an ex-president, working as an elections monitor and lobbying for health campaigns via the Carter Center, which he founded in 1982.
“Went for an MRI this past week and they (doctors) didn’t find any cancer at all in the brain”.
Carter has lived 34 years post-presidency, longer than any of his peers. “I’m ready for anything and I’m looking forward to new adventure”, Carter said.
