Carrie Fisher on ‘Star Wars,’ Harrison Ford and the Princess Leia bikini
But her viral interview contained more nuggets that Star Wars teasers. She has said she was pressured into losing the weight.

With only a few days left until Star Wars: The Force Awakens flies into theaters, the principle actors have been really hitting the news circuit to publicize its release. And even if the Rebellion lacks a political program, Han and Luke’s growing investment in the movement, facilitated by Princess Leia, makes us see its value, if only as an agent of their personal growth. Carrie Fisher told the Wall Street Journal that she thinks “it’s stupid”. Go look at the poster, they snuck it in.
But Fisher has taken a more nuanced take on the issue of the Slave Leia merchandise, and how parents should speak to their children about the image.
Ridley’s character Rey is a new addition to the cast of the sci-fi franchise and claimed she was “daunted” by her workmates. “I’ve been this character for 40 years, why would I not?” she said. She told Newsweek the costume is what supermodels will eventually wear in the seventh ring of hell.
“It’s ridiculous. Ridiculous in a really good way”, Fisher said. They might as well say get younger because that’s how easy it is. You’re going to watch your kid watch it, and wonder how he reacts.
However Fisher doesn’t agree with the recent debate about wether there should no longer be merchandise featuring Leia in her Return of the Jedi bikini and chains. You have to sort of feel bad for the interviewer, who is probably just following protocol by asking superficial questions (like a good droid) in what she thought would be a light-hearted exchange.
