Bastian Schweinsteiger: United need killer instinct

Manchester United are so lifeless in attack that they are now producing their worst-ever goals-per-game average under Louis van Gaal in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

The 64-year-old, who came under severe criticism for his boring and defensive style of football, believes that the fans are shouting “attack, attack” because his side were more dominating during the match, Sport24 reported.

All the talk among United supporters – raised on a tradition of exciting, uninhibited attacking football – is of the team’s lack of goals under what they believe to be manager Louis van Gaal’s sterile conservative approach.

The issue that fans are stating is that they have scored only 20 times in the 15 games, not the way Manchester United are known to do things but apart from all this, the club still sit three points off the top of the table and could well win the league.

While their rocky domestic form has seen last season’s Bundesliga runners-up slip to fifth after a 2-1 last-gasp defeat by Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Dieter Hecking’s team are top of Group B after a 2-0 win at CSKA Moscow.

“The feeling that the players want to score, we need to have more of this”.

“If we play against them as we did in the second half against Dortmund then I am certain we can beat United”, he said.

“It’s very important for us and I know how hard it is at Wolfsburg”.

Van Gaal admitted his players were disappointed with their finishing, explaining: “They are admitting they have to score”. If you miss a chance you have to be unhappy.

“We don’t want to be eliminated”. But, of course, we need to work on our formation to try to score goals and win games.

‘This is the club’s longest running charity partnership and is now in its 16th year, ‘ Van Gaal wrote in his programme notes ahead of the side’s draw with West Ham on Saturday.

“The reason why we have bought Schweinsteiger is that he is a player who can lead or guide a team”.

Former Southampton midfielder Schneiderlin wants his teammates to only have eyes on victory in their own match as they face a Wolfsburg side which also only requires a draw to progress past the group stage for the first time in its history.

“A few of the lads are feeling it from the games we are playing but that is not an excuse”. I have to admit I have said to her, when I met her and after our relationship seemed to be very good, that at 55 I shall quit.
