The Crime Scene Division responded and assisted with the search, processing and recovery of skeletal remains.
The five sets of remains were then found to be missing.
During their investigation, police learned that five graves had been robbed from the Worcester, Mass. cemetery.
The mausoleum, which had the name “Houghton” inscribed on its front, was secured by two wooden doors and a wrought iron gate that had been secured with a heavy guage chain and lock, the Telegram & Gazette in Worcester reports, citing police.
The decrepit corpses comprised three adults and two children, with the bodies dating from around 1900 to 1970, police said.
In the mausoleum, officers saw that several crypts had been forced open and bodies disinterred.
Investigators attempted to contact family members, but were unsuccessful. They said a man named Amador Medina, 32, of Hartford had the skeletal remains of five people in his possession, police said.
In Massachusetts, a warrant was issued for Medina’s arrest on charges of speeding and possessing a revoked license, a spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police said Saturday night.
Medina told police he was using the bones in ceremonies for healing for Santeria.
Medina was arrested Friday afternoon as a fugitive from justice from MA.
