“There is no scientific basis to include lethal methods in Japan’s whaling program”.

Whether Japan’s intentions are scientific or not, the island country’s history in the whaling industry is, in actuality, relatively new. A few days before the expiry of the first ships Tokyo of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) now presented a recent slimmed down whaling plan. Accordimg to Reuters, he said that now the Japanese were adamant that they would hunt for whales and stay within the limits of marine conservation standards.

TOKYO-Japan has resumed its controversial lethal research whaling because it wants to determine how many minke whales can be harvested sustainably while studying the environment, Joji Morishita, the nation’s representative to the International Whaling Commission (IWC), told a press conference here today.

George Brandis, the attorney general of Australia, said diplomacy will be employed to stop Japan, but if it fails, the government may look into sending a Customs and Border Protection Service patrol boat, most likely to monitor the waters and obtain evidence of illegal actions.

The New Zealand government has led a joint diplomatic protest over Japan’s decision to resume whaling in the Southern Ocean, Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister John Key said Monday.

But Tokyo retooled its plan for the 2015/16 season to cut the number of minke whales it intends to take to 333, down by two-thirds from previous hunts. New Zealand is strongly opposed to whaling in the Southern Ocean. The UK newspaper, The Express, reported the summer was quite traumatic for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as it witnessed the slaughter of whales on the Faroes and at Taiji Cove in Japan.

Let us take a few steps back in history, but not before mentioning that NEWREP-A would only see about 300 whales hunted yearly under the new framework. “We are also exploring options for further legal action”, the Australian ministry said.

“We did anticipate that this may happen. But I don’t think they’re going to”.

It’s worth noting that while Japan claims its annual whale haul is in the name of science, Iceland and Norway defiantly disregard the moratorium and continue their commercial whaling operations without citing “scientific research” as an excuse.

Australia and Japan have a good relationship with a mutual powerful friend in the United States.

It added that 32 other nations had lodged protests against Japan’s whaling ambitions.
