Sony also released a trailer to showcase emulation in action and hint at future titles to be released.

More details have emerged surrounding the PS4’s new backwards compatibility with PS2 games, including one of the first games that will potentially be released and new features that will be added to classic titles. Gamers who had purchased an Xbox 360 game, whether it is a digital download or on a physical disc, will be able to run that game on the Xbox One even without spending money.

The cost of these classic PS2 games which can now be played on PS4 ranges between $10 and $15 (£6.62 to £9.93).

Sony has confirmed plans are underway to get PlayStation 2 games functional on its latest platform, while the more complex PlayStation 3 games are corralled in the PlayStation Now streaming service.

On PS4 the games render in 1080p, and support new features like Trophies, Live Broadcast, Remote Play and second screen sharing of game manuals to a mobile device or PlayStation Vita. It specifically stated they need new people “to assist us in developing a game used for R&D purposes related to our next generation gaming system”, Attack of the Fan Boy reported. They are PaRappa the Rapper 2, The King of Fighters 2000, Fantavision, and Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits.

PS2 remains the best-selling console of all time, thanks in part to the revolutionary tech built into the box, such as support for the DVD format for games and movies, a powerful graphics processor, and specialized chips for particle effects and physics.

It’s been two years since PlayStation 4 (PS4) has been released and it’s still a much loved game console.
