Gas Prices Low and Going Lower
The national average of $2.03 per gallon is near its lowest level since March 25, 2009.

This time in 2014, the average per-gallon price of regular gas in Nashville was $2.49, according to AAA The Auto Club Group. Nationally, average has decreased roughly 19 cents per gallon during the last month and stands around 63 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
An oversupply of oil has kept prices down. The price of benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude oil has remained below $50 per barrel since July, AAA said.
The average price in Florida slipped under this year’s lows, too, becoming the lowest state average since 2009. Surveys have found consumers have joined producers in getting used to the low prices. The cities with the lowest average prices were Grand Island ($1.88 a gallon) and Columbus ($1.98 a gallon). Oil prices fell again last week, allowing gas prices to creep downward. “While we wait and see what that the next meeting might bring, high oil production will likely continue to boost already record high oil inventories, keeping gasoline prices somewhat subdued”.

AAA also reports that the most expensive gas is in Bridgeport at $2.34 for a gallon of unleaded, $2.22 in the Hartford region and $2.23 in New Haven-Meriden and New London-Norwich. These were massive declines largely due to the price of oil falling $17 during that same period. This compares with the national average that has not moved in the last week to $2.03/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
