Millions of People Witness New York’s 89th Thanksgiving Parade Amid Tight Security

Pamela and Tom Popp of Ridgefield, New Jersey said they’ve come to the city every year for the parade for at least 20 years. Check out pictures from the event below.

“They’re very excited. Everyone in America grows up knowing about the Macy’s Day parade”, he added.

“We have stepped up our preparedness in the aftermath of the Paris attacks, and we continue to remain vigilant against those who seek to spread fear and violence”, he said.

City officials have said there are no known, credible threats against NY following the recent attacks in Paris and a video purportedly produced by ISIS that contained video clips of Times Square. This said, unlike the extra personnel brought in for the the 2014 parade as a result of protests surrounding the developments of Ferguson, Missouri in the Michael Brown case, the NYPD had specialized sources focused on terrorism. No other incident was reported.

It is expected about 50 million people to have watched the 2.5-mile parade event on television across the world.
