UH to play Florida state in Peach Bowl in Atlanta

Jimbo Fisher considers the Peach Bowl a good consolation prize.

FSU (10-2) will finish its 2015 campaign against American Athletic Conference victor Houston (12-1) in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

Herman called the Seminoles “the cream of the crop when it comes to college football the last four of five years”.

“We’re still trying to stay there”, Fisher said. “This very young football team has grown all year, gotten better and better and better”.

Over the past 4 years, FSU has had a streak of playing in BCS Bowls (when they were still called that) and New Years Six Bowls.

It’s certainly an accomplishment for No. 14 Houston, which earned a spot in a major bowl as the top-ranked team from the Group of Five conferences.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit said during Sunday’s bowl selection show that the Seminoles will need a focused and sharp effort if they’re to beat the Cougars. “With All ACC and Heisman hopeful tailback Dalvin Cook and All AAC quarterback Greg ward, Jr., this is the type of game you look forward to kick off the slate of New Year’s Six bowl games and a great matchup of Houston’s 12th-ranked offense against FSU’s 5th-ranked defense”.

With Jameis Winston leaving for the NFL, Florida State was unable to go undefeated again, but the Seminoles still finished the season with 10 wins, including a 27-2 blowout at Florida to end the year. Georgia Tech returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown to upset the unbeaten Seminoles.

The other loss was a lot more understandable. Florida State enters with a No. 9 national ranking, while Houston is No. 18.

“If you’re not in a playoff game”, Fisher said, “these are the games you want to be in”. “I’m extremely proud of our guys buying into that”.

The defense has still been impressive – even against a powerful Clemson offense – and it has a ton of talent that has improved throughout the year. The Cougars have been stout against the run, surrendering 116 yards per game. Graduate transfer quarterback Everett Golson never fit in well with the offense, which ended up making a switch to backup Sean Maguire.

After the announcement, head coach Tom Herman spoke about guiding the Cougars to a major bowl in his first season.
