Louis van Gaal hits back at booing fans at Old Trafford

Reports in several Sunday newspapers suggest that even if Pep Guardiola were to make himself available to the Red Devils this summer, United would keep faith with current manager Louis van Gaal. “Maybe next year, when we strengthen again”. Some supporters might question Guardiola as he is also associated with the possession game but you just have to look at his Barcelona and Bayern Munich teams to see that his possession game is much easier on the eye than Van Gaal’s, as it is played at a fast pace instead of a United player dwindling on the ball before passing it backwards or sideways.

“The most important thing is that we are creating and we are dominant”.

“It is in every game like that because we are more dominating than our opponent”. “That is important – not only his football qualities – but that he can lead and guide a team on the pitch”, Van Gaal said, quoted by the club website (www.manutd.com).

Wolfsburg are eager to reach the knock-out stages in Europe for the first time in the club’s history, nearly six years to the day after losing to United 3-1 at home when they crashed out of the Champions League in 2009.

‘The question is would Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero score if they were here?’ Van Gaal said to Radio Manchester following yet another draw.

Manchester United endured another boring goalless draw at home to West Ham and its now official, United have a scoring problem.

“(The booing fans) don’t like the style of play from Manchester United, but everyone knows in advance that all the teams of Louis van Gaal is playing like that”, he added.

“We showed [against Getafe] we are in good form”, said the Welshman.

But this was not United’s worst display of the season.

Van Gaal’s critics will be out in force if they fail to score away to VfL Wolfsburg in the Champions League next week where only a victory will guarantee a place in the last 16.

That seems unlikely, indeed City beating Borussia Monchengladbach can not be taken for granted, though the overall situation is a little rosier than at the start of the cycle, when three of the four English clubs lost their opening games. “We are in a good position in the league, but it could have been boosted today”.
